Cristian Mungiu is the writer and director of the 2022 drama film R.M.N. The movie follows a guy who returns from Germany and his ex-lover who works in the town over the 2019–20 holiday season. It is set in a multiethnic community in Transylvania, Romania. Because the movie is "an investigation of the brain, a brain scan trying to detect things beneath the surface," Mungiu chose to name the movie after the Romanian abbreviation for nuclear magnetic resonance.[5]

In May 2022, the movie had its competitive debut at the Cannes Film Festival.
