Based on Judy Blume's 1970 novel of the same name, Kelly Fremon Craig produced, wrote for the screen, and directed the 2023 American coming-of-age comedic drama movie titled It's Me, Margaret.[3] Starring in the movie are Abby Ryder Fortson as Margaret Simon, Rachel McAdams as Barbara, and Kathy Bates as Sylvia, Margaret Simon's grandmother.

Premise:

Margaret Simon, a sixth-grader, and her family relocate from New York City to a New Jersey suburb. She sets out to find her religious identity because one of her parents is Christian and the other is Jewish.

Production:

In the 49 years after her book's release, Judy Blume has turned down several proposals to adapt it; as a result, she sold the film rights to James L. Brooks and Kelly Fremon Craig, who previously collaborated on The Edge of Seventeen (2016), with Craig scheduled to write and direct. Lionsgate prevailed in a studio bidding battle for the distribution rights.

It was revealed in February 2021 that Abby Ryder Fortson would play the title character, Margaret, and Rachel McAdams would play her mother. In March, Kathy Bates joined the cast. Benny Safdie joined the cast in April.
On April 1, 2021, principal photography commenced in Charlotte, North Carolina. Additionally, Concord, North Carolina had late-May filming that was completed in June 2021. 

Release:

God, are you there? The movie It's Me, Margaret made its world premiere on April 23, 2023, at the San Francisco International Film Festival, and Lionsgate Films plans to distribute it on April 28, 2023.[15] The first release date was set for September 16, 2022.

Reception:

A whopping 97% of the 36 reviews on the review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes are favourable, with an overall rating of 8.6/10.[17] Based on the opinions of 12 reviewers, the weighted average review site Metacritic gave the movie a "universal acclaim" rating of 85 out of 100.
