In New York City, principal photography commenced in May 2022.[5] "I worked to build a natural, inviting New York look that didn't distract from the unfolding story, but brought cinematic punctuation to its important human moments," said cinematographer Jeffrey Waldron. He utilised a Panavision Primo lens set on an Arri Alexa Mini camera to do this.

At the American Film Market in 2021, A24 acquired the rights for American distribution.[7] The Sundance Film Festival presented the world premiere of You Hurt My Feelings on January 22, 2023.[8] The publication date has been set for May 26, 2023.
